Full job description

The Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Support Project (SCTSP) is a well-established charity with over 30 years’ experience providing specialist support, education and advocacy for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disorder and thalassaemia across the West Midlands.

Working in partnership with NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards, local authorities, schools and community organisations, we are committed to reducing health inequalities, improving outcomes and enhancing the quality of life of those living with haemoglobinopathies.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Registered General Nurse (NMC registered) to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a unique opportunity to combine your nursing skills with a strong community focus and make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and adults affected by these conditions.

About the Role You will:

Deliver the NHS Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programme for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia. Provide sensitive, non-directive counselling and support to individuals, couples and families.

Support children, young people and adults living with sickle cell disorder and thalassaemia from a community and social perspective.

Provide ongoing support to individuals and families during periods of ill health, both in hospital and within the community, helping to ensure continuity of care and a smooth transition between services.

Liaise with hospital teams and advocate on behalf of patients and families during admissions, discharge planning and recovery.

Work collaboratively with NHS colleagues and community partners to provide seamless, person-centred support. Promote awareness, education and health equality within diverse communities.

This is not a clinical intervention post. The emphasis is on screening, counselling, education, advocacy and community support, ensuring that individuals and families receive holistic support throughout their journey, particularly during periods when they are unwell.

About You

You will be a motivated and caring Registered Nurse with:

Current NMC registration. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A compassionate, person-centred and non-judgemental approach. The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and an understanding of the needs of diverse communities.

A passion for reducing health inequalities and supporting people with long-term conditions.
