Full job description

We are looking for a practical freelance Electrical Engineer, Electrical Technician, Electronics Technician, or experienced low-voltage technician for one day of hands-on bench testing support.

Date: Tuesday 16th June
Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire
Duration: 1 day
Type: Freelance / short-term contract

The project involves interfacing with a Japanese gacha / capsule toy mechanism and confirming the safest and most reliable way to trigger or simulate its coin input/output behaviour using low-voltage control hardware.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable with basic electrical diagnostics, low-voltage DC circuits, relay modules, Arduino / Phidgets-style control hardware, and safe bench testing.

Experience with vending machines, arcade machines, amusement machines, kiosks, photo booths, interactive exhibits, or similar mechanisms would be especially useful.

What we need help with

We need someone to attend our workshop in Tamworth and help us:

Inspect and understand the wiring of a gacha / capsule toy mechanism
Identify the coin acceptor output / signal line
Confirm whether the coin signal can be safely simulated
Bench test whether we can pulse the signal line directly or need to wire a relay in parallel with the coin acceptor output
Help test relay-based triggering using either Phidgets hardware or an Arduino-based fallback
Use a multimeter to confirm voltages, continuity, polarity and signal behaviour
Advise on safe wiring, fusing, connectors and strain relief
Help document the final working connection method clearly enough for our team to reproduce on-site
Flag any risks before we commit to a final control approach

This is not a full electrical installation role. It is primarily a low-voltage bench testing, control interface and fault-finding task.

Useful experience

The ideal person will have practical experience with some or all of the following:

Low-voltage DC circuits
Relay modules / solid-state relays
Opto-isolated relay boards
Arduino, Phidgets, Raspberry Pi, PLCs or similar control hardware
Coin acceptors, vending mechanisms, arcade machines, amusement machines or kiosks
Bench testing and electrical fault finding
Reading basic wiring and connector layouts
Safe temporary test wiring
Multimeter use, including continuity and voltage checks
Simple input/output triggering and pulse signals

5V opto-isolated Arduino relay modules
12V DC power supply
Inline fuse holder and low-current fuses
WAGO connectors
Crocodile clip test leads
Stranded hook-up wire
Ferrules and crimp tool
Heatshrink
Digital multimeter
Basic hand tools

You do not necessarily need to supply parts, but please mention if you have additional test equipment or preferred tools.
