About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and organised Pharmacist to lead the launch and day-to-day clinical operation of our new Distance Selling Pharmacy based in Darlington (DL1), with an anticipated opening in August/September.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the business from the beginning, helping establish robust clinical processes, ensuring regulatory compliance and developing a high-quality pharmacy service with scope for future growth.
The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced Store Manager and an Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT/Checker), allowing them to focus on clinical governance, prescription accuracy and operational leadership.
Although the pharmacy will not initially provide NHS clinical services, there are plans to expand as the business develops.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Responsible Pharmacist and provide clinical leadership for the pharmacy.
- Ensure safe, effective and compliant dispensing of NHS and private prescriptions.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain compliance with GPhC standards and NHS contractual requirements.
- Oversee dispensing accuracy, workflow and patient safety.
- Support the recruitment, training and development of pharmacy staff.
- Work closely with the Store Manager to establish efficient daily operations.
- Supervise and work collaboratively with the Accuracy Checking Technician.
- Manage controlled drugs, patient safety incidents, audits and governance requirements.
- Build relationships with GP practices, care providers and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist in developing new pharmacy services as the business grows.
Desired Experience
Applicants should have:
- Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Previous experience working as a community pharmacist.
- Experience working with care homes is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of MAR (Medication Administration Record) charts and monitored dosage systems.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy governance and legal requirements.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
- Confidence in establishing new processes and improving workflows.
- Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience within a Distance Selling Pharmacy would be advantageous but is not essential.
