Based 5 days a week (Mon to Fri) at our Roastery in Dartford, with occasional travel to our UK Head Office in Milton Keynes, as well other sites as may be required in the performance of the role.
The Role
The Roastery Management Accountant will play a key role in providing financial insights and analysis to support business decision-making. The role is responsible for the accounting, management reporting, forecasting & budgeting, and financial control of the Roastery. Working closely with the Roastery General Manager and Financial Controller to improve, align and aid decision making, providing recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency, and drive overall performance.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities

Preparation and completion of the month-end and year-end close process for the Roastery, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations

Reporting back to Milton Keynes Finance team ‘in month performance challenges’ on a timely basis to allow support to the Roastery to resolve any performance issues.

Preparing and publishing timely monthly financial statements and reporting packs for the Roastery, reporting financial and operational results, investigating and explaining variances to budget, forecast and production plans

Translating sales forecasts into forecasts of the green coffee flow, coffee price and stock projections as input for budget and monthly forecasts

Support the Roastery team in ensuring good financial control is maintained over stocks, purchasing and costs

Support commercial tenders, contract extensions and introductions of new products by drawing up cost price calculations and performing margin simulations, challenging where necessary

Coffee deals and fixation coffee price maintenance, communicating with the buying team and sales regarding deals and fixing coffee prices and preparing coffee price comparisons

Maintaining deal and position prices and related master data in the ERP system

Information provision for management and supply chain teams on the development of sales vs. delivery of green coffee per customer (deal accuracy), start/end of deals, fixations, position prices, spot purchases, postponement/cancellation/conversion of coffee contracts, blend management, inventory development and related KPIs

Work with the Roastery General Manager in driving improvements and adding value through business analysis, bringing clarity and objectivity to decision making

Work with the Roastery Operations team in supporting cost analysis/project analysis, proposing, implementing and monitoring cost saving initiatives

Support the preparation and submission of Roastery Capex proposals, and subsequent capital expenditure tracking, reporting and return on investment appraisal

Support to the Intercompany and 3rd Party co-roasting processes

Champion best practice over financial transactions and reporting, developing and documenting business processes and policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

Supporting the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and associated transactions, reports and returns

Support the annual audit, liaising with the company's auditors, ensuring adherence to reporting deadlines and preparation of the audit file

Produce ad-hoc analysis as requested
Knowledge & Experience

ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualified, preferably gained within an FMCG environment

Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with excellent attention to detail.

Has worked in an influencing role shaping business decision making and has good commercial awareness

Experience of costing in a manufacturing environment an advantage

Strong understanding and proficiency with financial software inc. MS Excel and integrated ERP systems
