About Us
We are a busy family business, looking for a dedicated Night Shift Machine Caretaker & Technician. Because we specialise in high-quality, optical-grade products, we need someone who understands how to treat machines and moulds with care. This role is perfect for a proactive troubleshooter who takes pride in keeping production moving smoothly through the night
The Role
Your primary goal is to maximize machine uptime and guide the night shift operators. While this is not a formal management role, you will be the main point of contact on the shift. You will guide the operators, ensure company policies are followed, and keep the day management team informed of any machine or team issues.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Shift Pattern: Monday to Thursday only (Enjoy a 3-day weekend!)
Hours: 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM (9 hours per shift / 36 hours per week)
Note: We can be slightly flexible with these hours to help suit your routine, provided the operational needs of the business and production demands are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Hands-on Production Support: Willing and ready to step in as a machine operator as and when required to support the team, cover breaks, or handle unexpected staff shortages.
- Night Shift & Schedule Alignment: Must be fully prepared to commit long-term to a permanent night shift lifestyle. You should be comfortable balancing your personal schedule with our core hours, keeping a slight degree of flexibility for peak business periods.
- Robotics & Automation: Operate, troubleshoot, and reset 6-axis robots used in parts extraction and handling.
- Team Guidance & Accountability: Act as the technical guide for the night shift. Confidently speak up and correct operators if company policies or safety procedures are not being followed.
- Management Communication: Act as the link to daytime management. Provide clear shift updates and flag any major machine, robotic, or staff issues.
- Preventative Machine Care: Complete routine checks, cleaning, and basic mechanical maintenance to guarantee minimum downtime.
- Clear Moulding Quality Control: Monitor and adjust process parameters specifically for acrylic. Prevent cosmetic defects as per the clients brief.
Requirements
- Proven capability and preference for working permanent night shifts.
- Proven experience setting and maintaining plastic injection moulding machines.
- Highly skilled in processing transparent materials, such as acrylic.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills to fix faults quickly without waiting for the day shift.
- Reliable, independent, and comfortable being the main technical support on a night shift.
- Ensure full compliance with PPE, Health & Safety regulations, and maintain excellent housekeeping standards. We offer excellent opportunities for both personal and professional development as you grow with us. If you’re someone with a positive, “can-do” mindset and a glass-half-full approach — we’d love to hear from you!
