Buoyant Works have 2 vacancies for design engineers to join its expanding team based between Saltash and Liskeard. This is very much a dynamic role with the opportunity to express your talents in a growing and highly creative business. Buoyant Works designs and manufactures impact protection and fendering products for the marine, offshore wind and oil & gas industries.
Main Purpose:
To provide accurate and timely design drawings and technical specifications for every product manufactured by Buoyant Works, meeting both internal and external customer expectations and timescales.
Key Deliverables:
Receive and understand order and quotation requirements from Owner and create technical designs and drawings for the manufacturing team
Effective and prompt scheduling, and rescheduling of design work, to meet required deadlines of a rapidly expanding and evolving business
Positive and productive interaction with design team colleagues to discuss and agree daily priorities in line with business needs, and learn from/share areas of expertise
Internal quality assurance review within the team to ensure designs meet technical requirements and business expectations
Contribute to the design and maintenance of correct and easily retrievable records, files, and designs
Minimise wastage and rework, show learning and review
Key attributes required:
Comfortable to act swiftly and confidently when short notice design work is needed
The ability to manage a small number of projects simultaneously, and contribute to the evolution of projects, particularly innovative and updated design pieces
To use experience and knowledge to foresee potential design challenges that may affect production ahead of time, and alert leadership
To continuously build and nurture strong working relationships within the team and with colleagues across the factory – we are one team
Accurate daily reporting of progress and timescales, alerting any potential challenges or delays promptly so that deadlines and expectations are professionally managed
The ability to achieve both task output volume and continuous improvement activity within workload so that processes and systems evolve and support our growth
Open and effective commmunication skills – speaking up when needed

Desirable skills/qualifications:
Manufacturing Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Experience of using Solidworks
Knowledge of bespoke manufacturing business systems such as MRP, ERP, CNC
Experience of light and semi-heavy products fabrication, casting or moulding, post-process finishing, surface treatments/paint/powder coat.
Marine Industry knowledge or experience an advantage but not essential.

Pay: £31,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
