Location: Widnes, WA8 0QE
Salary: £19,032 per year
Job Type: Full-time Apprenticeship
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (1-hour lunch break) – 40 hours per week
Start Date: 10th August 2026
Duration: 3 years, 3 months

About the Role

Abbey Logistics Group is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our experienced team as a Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician Apprentice.

Working alongside highly skilled HGV technicians in our modern in-house workshop, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience maintaining and repairing our fleet of road tankers and trailers while studying towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.

This apprenticeship is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in heavy vehicles, engineering, and mechanical maintenance who is looking to build a long-term career within the transport and logistics industry.

What You'll Be Doing

As part of your apprenticeship, you will learn to:

Carry out inspections, servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on Abbey Logistics Group's tanker and trailer fleet.
Assist with chassis repairs and general accident damage repairs.
Carry out aluminium and stainless steel fabrication work.
Use workshop tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Follow all health & safety procedures and company policies.
Work as part of a professional team to maintain high workshop standards.

Apprenticeship Training

You will complete the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship delivered by St Helens College.

Training includes:

One day per week at college during term time.
Workplace learning and supported training throughout the remainder of the programme.
Continuous mentoring from experienced HGV technicians.

What We're Looking ForEssential

GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English.
GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths.
A genuine interest in vehicle maintenance, engineering or mechanics.
Commitment to learning and developing new skills.

Skills & Qualities

Excellent attention to detail.
Good problem-solving ability.
Strong teamwork skills.
Good time management.
Willingness to follow safe working practices and workshop procedures.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Relevant qualifications or previous engineering/mechanical experience are welcomed and will be considered.
