Full job description

On behalf of our client we are looking for an Independent Investigator (Inside IR35) for a part-time (3 days per week) contract up to 31/03/2027 based in London as and when required (home working unless office attendance is required)

As an Independent Investigator your main responsibilities will be:

Lead complex, independent investigations into complaints involving bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct and other sensitive workplace matters.
Plan and manage investigations from initial scoping through to completion, determining appropriate lines of enquiry.
Conduct investigative interviews with complainants, respondents and witnesses using a professional, impartial and trauma-informed approach.
Build effective working relationships with all parties, ensuring clear, timely and sensitive communication throughout the investigation process.
Gather, review and analyse documentary, digital and witness evidence to establish findings based on the balance of probabilities.
Produce comprehensive, evidence-based investigation reports, applying organisational policies, procedures and relevant standards to support clear recommendations.
Maintain accurate investigation records, case logs and documentation throughout each investigation.
Participate in quality assurance activities, responding positively to feedback to ensure consistency and high standards.
Present and explain investigation findings and recommendations to senior decision-makers where required.
Ensure all case information, evidence and interview recordings are managed securely and in accordance with data protection and information governance requirements.
Work collaboratively with case managers and support colleagues to prioritise workloads and deliver investigations within agreed timescales.
Exercise sound judgement, integrity and discretion while operating independently within established investigative frameworks.

Essential:

Significant experience conducting complex workplace investigations involving bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct or other sensitive employee relations issues.
Proven ability to independently manage investigations from planning through to conclusion.
Strong investigative interviewing, evidence gathering and analytical skills, with the ability to assess credibility and weigh conflicting evidence.
Excellent report writing skills, producing clear, well-structured and evidence-based reports suitable for formal decision-making.
Experience applying trauma-informed practices when supporting and interviewing vulnerable individuals.
Demonstrable integrity, impartiality and confidentiality, with the ability to manage sensitive information appropriately.
Experience working within formal investigative, regulatory or organisational frameworks, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and quality standards.
Ability to manage multiple complex investigations simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex findings clearly and professionally.
Excellent organisational skills, including maintaining accurate case records, documentation and evidence management.

Desirable:

Experience investigating workplace complaints within large, complex or highly regulated organisations.
Knowledge of employment legislation, workplace investigations and best practice relating to bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct.
Experience supporting formal disciplinary, grievance or independent complaints processes.
Understanding of safeguarding principles and victim-centred investigative approaches.
Experience participating in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
Ability to operate effectively in high-profile, confidential or sensitive environments while maintaining professional independence.
Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver fair, thorough and timely investigations.
