Supported by the on site Surgery Team Leader, you will play a key role in providing an efficient, safe and responsive service.
Main duties of the job
This role would offer the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their supervisory and leadership skills whilst being supported by the site Surgery Team Lead and Surgery Team Manager.
The successful applicant must possess excellent communication skills and have some experience of supervising colleagues. Whilst experience of primary care is not essential, it will be advantageous.

About us
Portsdown Group Practice covers the whole of Portsmouth from postcodes PO1 to PO7. We operate from 6 surgeries: Cosham Park House (PO6 3BG), Crookhorn Lane (PO7 5XP, Heyward Road (PO4 0DY), Kingston Crescent (PO2 8AL), Paulsgrove (PO6 4HJ), and Somerstown (PO5 4EZ). We are our own Primary Care Network (PCN).
We have Clinical Partners, Salaried GPs and a comprehensive Nursing and extended clinical team overseen by our Clinical Team Manager. The team consists of Nurse / Paramedic Practitioners, Registered Nurses, HCAs, MSK Physiotherapists, Podiatrist, Dietitian, Social Prescribers and Care Co-ordinators. The Pharmacy team consists of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. The Practice is well established, financially secure and successful.
Job responsibilities
Assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the site and work within the Reception Team. The post holder will work closely with (and under the direction of) the Surgery Team Leader to provide a first class reception service and actively implement the continual improvement of standards across a wide range of activities.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Senior Duties:
- Support the Surgery Team Leader (STL) in the day to day running of the site, ensuring appropriate senior cover during periods of leave and sickness absence.
- Be a positive ambassador for change to the reception team.
- Be aware of monthly reporting duties and ensure deadlines are met in STLs absence.
- On-site support and mentorship for new staff.
- Take the lead in areas of practice administration
- Ensure all reception and administration duties are completed to the highest standards
- Ensuring site compliance with Practice and Statutory obligations including (but not limited to) fire, security and health and safety measures
- Support and provide resilience for Surgery Team Leader on site as and when required
