Role: Library Manager
Salary: Grade F £30,024 - £32,597 a year full time equivalent
Location: Post 1 – Normanton Library. Post 2 – Allestree, Mackworth and Springwood Libraries
Hours: Post 1 – 18.5 hours. Post 2 – 26 hours

In this role, you will have responsibility for the efficient and effective operation of libraries. You’ll work closely with colleagues including your direct reports, volunteers, senior managers and Councillors to deliver a high quality, professional service, and you and your team will support and deliver key projects and initiatives that help drive service improvement.
As a Library Manager, you will also play a key role in ensuring that Derby’s libraries are well run, well presented, safe, and welcoming to all.

The Opportunity
In the role of Library Manager, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
- Managing a team of staff and volunteers so that, together, you can provide a high-quality professional service to customers and colleagues that drives service improvement
- Supporting and delivering initiatives on a range of key areas including literacy, well-being, IT learning sessions, and supporting the delivery of campaigns, activities and events to increase library use, book borrowing and return visits
- Looking for opportunities to improve opening hours where appropriate to enable more people to be able to visit and use the library
- Using your time-management, organisational, communication, people-management and administration skills to ensure the libraries you are responsible for run smoothly
- Promoting the library confidently and effectively by being aware of the benefits of libraries and the positive impacts they have on the communities they serve
- Being a positive role model, promoting teamwork, inclusion and professionalism
- Managing the building to ensure it is a safe, accessible and welcoming environment
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…
- Minimum Grade C GCSE Maths & English or equivalent
- ECDL Level 1 or equivalent IT qualification, and experience of using IT on a daily basis
- An understanding of public library work
- Experience of working with people of all ages and from all backgrounds
- Experience of recruiting, managing, monitoring and motivating a team of staff and volunteers
- The skills to deal effectively with difficult people and confrontational situations
- An enthusiasm for reading, and the ability to promote the benefits of reading within the local community
