CAD Designer
Location: Stapleford, NG9 7JA
Salary: £30,000 (negotiable, dependent on experience)
Job Type: Full-Time (Weekend working required)
We're looking for someone who can operate independently, take ownership of the design function, and grow with the business long-term. If you want a role where your expertise genuinely shapes how the department works and where you're rewarded when the business does well - this is it. This role would suit someone with a few years industry experiences in a similar or relevant field to Cabin Master.
About Cabin Master
Cabin Master and its sister companies, design and manufacture high-quality garden rooms, annexes, and BBQ cabins for residential and commercial clients. We're an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) - which means the people who work here have a real stake in the business. When we do well, everyone benefits through our yearly bonus scheme.
With increasing demand for regulation-compliant structures, we're looking to bring someone on with solid experience in UK building regulations and customer-facing design - an individual who'll hit the ground running and make the role their own.
The Role
This is a dual-function position with two clear areas:
Customer-Facing Design:
- Working directly with clients to design garden rooms, studios, and BBQ cabins
- Creating 3D models and compelling visuals using SketchUp (or equivalent)
- Supporting the sales team with design output that helps close deals
Building Regulations & Technical Compliance:
- Producing detailed technical drawings for regulation-compliant structures (annexes, commercial builds)
- Ensuring full compliance with UK building regulations - structure, energy efficiency, fire safety & more
- Liaising with structural engineers, consultants and regulatory bodies
- Maintaining organised documentation for regulatory submissions and approvals
- Providing technical specifications to support construction teams on site
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in customer-facing design
- Proven experience with UK building regulations compliance - you've done it, not just read about it
- Degree in Architecture, Product Design or a related field
- Proficiency in SketchUp or similar (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks considered)
- Solid understanding of UK building regulations and construction principles
- Ability to produce and interpret detailed technical drawings and specifications
- Strong communicator - comfortable with clients, contractors, and internal teams alike
- Someone who takes ownership, improves things without being asked and wants to build a career rather than just fill a role
- Must be able to reliably commute to NG9 7JA - all hours are on-site
This role includes weekend working. Client consultations take place on Saturdays and Sundays and this is a firm requirement - please only apply if you're genuinely happy with this schedule.
Desirable
- Experience with timber frame structures
- Knowledge of energy efficiency calculations (SAP, U-values, etc.)
- Experience mentoring or leading junior team members
What We Offer
- Salary from £30,000, negotiable depending on experience
- Yearly EOT bonus - when the business performs well, you share in that directly
- Real autonomy - you'll shape how the design function operates, not just follow a brief
- Variety: no two projects are the same, from small garden studios to complex annexes
- A growing business where strong performance leads to greater responsibility
- Free on-site parking, company events
