About us

SCS Accounting Solutions is an independent, well-established accounting practice based in Dereham, providing accounts, tax, bookkeeping and payroll services to a loyal client base of micro and small-sized businesses across Norfolk. We pride ourselves on delivering a personal, high-quality service, and we're now looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our expanding team on a part-time basis.

The role

We are looking for a knowledgeable and detail-focused Payroll Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the end-to-end payroll process for a growing portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with relevant statutory requirements and company policies. This role plays a crucial part in supporting our clients and maintaining the financial accuracy of their payroll system.

You’ll need relevant knowledge of employment law and statutory legislation, ensuring accuracy and a methodical approach to meeting tight deadlines. It is essential that you have a strong knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) process, legislation and governance.

Key responsibilities include:

Processing weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for multiple clients from start to finish
Calculating PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), attachments and pension contributions
Setting up new starters and processing leavers, including P45s
Submitting Real Time Information (RTI) to HMRC and managing year-end processes, including P60s & P11Ds.
Assessment and administration of auto-enrolment pension schemes, processing contributions and liaising with pension providers
Responding to client and employee payroll queries in a clear, professional and timely manner, while building trusted relationships.
Liaise with HMRC or other authorities regarding tax codes, payments, and other payroll-related matters.
Maintaining accurate payroll records in line with GDPR and firm procedures
CIS requirements, processing of sub-contractor invoices, verifying with HMRC, and advising clients of CIS deductions. Providing sub-contractors with monthly payment & deduction reports.
Any ad-hoc duties or financial and operational reporting to support the team as needed

Skills and experience

At least two years’ experience in processing payroll and pensions, ideally within an Accountancy practice.
Working knowledge of payroll software (e.g. Sage, Xero, BrightPay or similar)
Up-to-date knowledge of PAYE, NI, pensions and statutory legislations.
Experience and understanding of CIS legislation and processing methods.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when working to deadlines
Strong communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach
The ability to independently manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively
