Full job description

Part-Time Experienced Company Bookkeeper Required

We are looking for an experienced part-time company bookkeeper to support our group with bookkeeping, payroll, tax, and statutory filing requirements across multiple companies.

The ideal candidate will be organised, reliable, detail-focused, and confident working independently across several businesses with different accounting needs.

Key Responsibilities

The role may include:

Day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple companies
Processing sales invoices and purchase invoices
Bank reconciliations
Credit card and supplier statement reconciliations
Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
Credit control and debtor follow-up
Preparing payment runs
Maintaining accurate records in accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar
Preparing and filing VAT returns
Managing VAT records and Making Tax Digital compliance
PAYE payroll processing
RTI submissions to HMRC
Pension submissions and auto-enrolment administration
CIS contractor and subcontractor reporting
CIS verification, deductions, monthly returns, and statements
Preparing payroll reports for directors/management
Preparing management reports when required
Profit and loss reporting
Balance sheet reconciliations
Cash flow reporting
Liaising with accountants, HMRC, Companies House, suppliers, and staff
Preparing and filing Companies House Confirmation Statements
Assisting with year-end accounts preparation
Maintaining company records and statutory deadlines
Keeping track of HMRC and Companies House filing dates
General finance administration
Supporting directors with financial information and reporting

Requirements

Proven bookkeeping experience
Experience handling VAT, PAYE, CIS, and Companies House filings
Comfortable working with multiple companies
Strong attention to detail
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Experience with Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, or similar software
AAT, ICB, or similar qualification preferred, but experience is equally valued

Role Details

Part-time position
Flexible hours available
Work will be office-based at our Livingston office.
Salary/rate dependent on experience
Expected rate: £18-£22 per hour employed, or negotiable for freelance/self-employed applicants
