Operations Data Analyst – Clayton Glass, Dewsbury
Where curiosity, evidence and real‑world thinking drive better manufacturing decisions.
With nearly 70 years of manufacturing heritage, Clayton Glass is a leading British manufacturer of high‑quality insulated glass units. Our Dewsbury site is a critical part of our operation, where quality, efficiency and disciplined execution matter every day.
We are now seeking an Operations Data Analyst who goes far beyond running reports. This is a role for someone who is naturally inquisitive — someone who sees data as a starting point, not an answer, and who is driven to understand what the numbers are really saying about what’s happening on the shop floor.
The Opportunity
This role sits at the heart of our manufacturing operation, working closely with Operations teams and senior leaders to uncover insight, challenge assumptions and support smarter decision‑making.
You will investigate trends, spikes and changes in operational data and relate them to real‑world factors such as process, people, machinery, materials, training and environment. You will question why something has changed, what may have caused it, and what the wider implications could be for quality, waste, efficiency and profitability.
This is a commercially focused role where your analysis will directly influence how we improve performance, reduce waste and strengthen operational capability.
What You’ll Be Doing
Investigating & Interpreting Performance
- Analyse operational data to identify trends, anomalies, inefficiencies and emerging risks
- Spot spikes and patterns and ask the deeper questions: What’s changed? Why now? What does this mean in reality?
- Connect data signals to shop‑floor activity — process changes, equipment, materials, environment, skills and behaviours
Turning Data into Action
- Design, build and maintain insightful operational and management reports using SQL Server, Microsoft Report Builder and Power BI
- Develop dashboards that track meaningful KPIs across productivity, utilisation, cost, waste, rework and performance
- Translate complex analysis into clear, practical insights that leaders and operational teams can act on
Supporting Continuous Improvement
- Partner closely with Operations to understand processes and define meaningful measures
- Support Lean and CI initiatives with evidence‑based analysis
- Help identify root causes of waste, defects and inefficiency — and track whether changes deliver real improvement
- Improve reporting through automation, standardisation and better data quality
Commercial & Operational Impact
- Support forecasting, capacity planning and performance modelling
- Highlight cost and efficiency variances that affect profitability
- Ensure data is robust, credible and reflects what is actually happening in the operation
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- (2+ years) proven experience in an Operations Data Analyst, BI Analyst or similar analytics role
- Strong experience with MS SQL Server, including advanced querying and optimisation
- Hands‑on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services
- Strong proficiency in Power BI, including data modelling, DAX and dashboard optimisation
- Experience in building and maintaining data warehouses, with a good understanding of database structures, data flows, and reporting systems to support business operations and decision-making.
- Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, Pivot Tables, complex formulas)
- Experience working with high‑volume operational data in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to question, challenge and explain insight clearly
Desirable
- Experience within a manufacturing or logistics environment
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement approaches
- A practical understanding of how manufacturing processes, machinery and people influence performance
- Driving Licence
This Role Suits You If You…
- Are naturally curious and instinctively ask why
- Get energy from investigating anomalies and finding root causes
- Believe data is powerful — but only when tested against reality
- Enjoy spending time understanding how things actually work on the shop floor
- Think in cause and effect, not just charts and numbers
- Want your analysis to drive tangible, visible improvement
