An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Fuel Cycle Area (FCA) for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Project Engineering team. This is a pivotal role where you’ll lead the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions, shape technical strategy, and ensure robust governance across complex projects. You’ll work at the forefront of engineering excellence, influencing safety, performance, and innovation while collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll be doing:
In this role, you will provide technical oversight across the full engineering lifecycle, driving the development and execution of engineering and safety case strategies that respond effectively to changing project needs. You’ll ensure all engineering activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance, while maintaining effective relationships with regulators and stakeholders. Supporting technical governance and design authority, you’ll contribute to project delivery from concept through to commissioning, manage specifications and approvals, and support the development of engineering solutions aligned to site performance.
- Support engineering strategy, safety case delivery, and technical governance across projects
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards while liaising with regulators
- Contribute to design authority, technical specifications, and approval of engineering solutions
- Support project delivery, resource planning, contractor coordination, and required governance activities
What you'll bring:
We’re seeking an experienced and driven mechanical engineer with a strong track record of supporting complex engineering projects. You’ll combine solid technical expertise with excellent communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams. With a proactive, solutions-focused mindset, you’ll thrive in an environment where quality, safety, and collaboration are paramount.
- Degree in engineering (or equivalent) with comprehensive mechanical engineering experience
- Proven experience supporting projects across design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning (nuclear sector desirable)
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with contractors
- Demonstrable technical capability, organisational skills, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance
- Post specific capability analysis assessment
