Experienced Estimator
Company: Kent Structures Ltd
Location: Charing, Kent
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
About Us At Kent Structures, we are a forward-thinking design-and-build construction firm committed to delivering excellence across a diverse range of projects. From modern methods of construction (MMC), such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) and structural insulated panels (SIPs), to high-quality traditional builds, we take pride in our innovative approach. We believe our best work comes from true collaboration, and we are looking for a dedicated Estimator who thrives in a close-knit, supportive team environment.
The Role As our Estimator, you will be a vital part of our commercial team in Charing. This is a purely estimating role focused on the front end of our business: analysing risks, pricing accurately, and securing profitable work. You will not be working in isolation; you will partner closely with our directors, design partners, and operational teams to build robust, winning bids that set our projects up for success from day one.
Key Responsibilities
· Collaborative Tendering: Work seamlessly alongside the wider commercial team to manage the end-to-end estimating process for design-and-build and traditional contracts, ensuring deadlines are met while bids are competitive.
· Accurate Costing & Take-Offs: Perform detailed quantity take-offs from architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
· Software Utilisation: Champion the use of Bluebeam Revu for highly accurate digital take-offs, drawing mark-ups, and streamlined estimating workflows.
· Supply Chain Partnership: Build and maintain strong relationships with our established network of subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive, comprehensive quotations.
· Risk & Opportunity Analysis: Identify project-specific risks, including logistical challenges on complex or coastal sites, and workshop these with the team during tender adjudication meetings.
· Value Engineering: Collaborate with our design and delivery teams to proactively propose alternative materials, MMC options, or methods that provide cost-effective solutions.
· Seamless Handover: Set the delivery and quantity surveying teams up for success by facilitating clear, highly detailed handover meetings once a project is secured.
About You
· Team Player: You have a genuinely collaborative mindset. You are ready to share insights, support your colleagues, and contribute to Kent Structures' collective growth.
· Experience: You have a proven, sustained track record as an Estimator within the UK main contracting environment, successfully pricing projects across various sectors.
· Technical Knowledge: You have a strong understanding of the complete construction process, with experience in both traditional builds and MMC, including timber engineering, SFS, and CLT, being highly advantageous.
· Software Proficiency: Highly competent in modern estimating software and digital take-off tools, specifically Bluebeam.
· Detail-Focused: Exceptional numerical and analytical skills, with a meticulous eye for detail.
· Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients, the supply chain, and internal teams.
What We Offer
· A pivotal role within a highly collaborative, dynamic team in Charing.
· A supportive environment where your expertise is valued, and your voice is heard from day one.
· £50,000 – £60,000
· We believe in a healthy work-life balance. You will receive 25 days’ annual leave, plus all eight bank holidays, so you can properly switch off and recharge.
· Your ideas, our future: We are genuinely excited about fresh perspectives.
· Join a team where collaboration is not just a buzzword; it is how we grow. Your insights will be truly valued.
