YMCA Support Youth Worker

Location: Newcastle YMCA, 54a Main Street

Hours: 3 hours per week (Will include evenings between Tues-Friday. Option for additional hours as available)

Rate of Pay: £11.04 - £12.84 Dependant on experience and in line with age-related National Minimum Wage rates

Newcastle YMCA is seeking a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Youth Support Worker to join our team supporting young people in the local community.

Main Duties

Support young people in a safe and welcoming environment
Assist with youth activities, group sessions and engagement programmes
Encourage positive relationships, confidence and personal development
Provide practical and emotional support where appropriate
Help maintain a respectful, inclusive and safe space
Work alongside YMCA staff and volunteers
Assist with setting up and tidying activities and resources
Follow safeguarding, health & safety and YMCA policies at all times
Undertake training and development relevant to the post

Essential Skills & Qualities

Be able to demonstrate 3 months youth work experience (paid or unpaid) within the last 2 years within a range of youth work situations
Hold a minimum, or be prepared to work towards a Level 2 OCN Youth work qualification
A good knowledge of the issues facing young people in today's society
Good communication and listening skills
Friendly, approachable and supportive manner
Ability to work with young people from different backgrounds
Reliable and able to work independently and as part of a team

The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Access NI Check.
