About the Role
We are looking for an Embedded Electronics Product Engineer to join our in-house engineering team based in West Dean, Salisbury. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in bringing a number of exciting in-house products to completion for a company with a truly global reach. Ideal for a motivated graduate or early-career engineer looking to take on real responsibility from day one, you will work on the electronics hardware and firmware at the heart of our next-generation non-lethal devices, contributing across the full product lifecycle from concept and prototyping through to production and field deployment.
The role is initially offered as a 12-month contract, with the strong potential for extension based on the company's ongoing and future requirements.
You will be working on products that operate in demanding, safety-critical environments, where engineering quality and reliability are paramount.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded electronics hardware for new and existing Typhon products, from schematic capture and PCB layout through to bring-up and validation
- Write and maintain firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems
- Select and integrate appropriate microcontrollers, sensors, power management components, and communication interfaces to meet product requirements
- Support prototyping, testing, and iterative development through the product lifecycle
- Work closely with mechanical and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated product designs
- Contribute to 3D and mechanical CAD design tasks where required
- Produce clear technical documentation including schematics, firmware specifications, and test reports
- Engage with suppliers and manufacturers to support design for manufacture (DFM) and production readiness
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Foundational knowledge of embedded electronics hardware design — schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and bring-up
- Understanding of firmware development in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems
- Experience with embedded communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN
- Familiarity with ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers
- Ability to read and interpret datasheets, schematics, and technical specifications
- A methodical, safety-conscious approach to engineering
Desirable Skills
- PCB design experience using OrCAD
- Experience with 3D or mechanical CAD design tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Knowledge of RTOS development (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar)
- Experience using lab equipment — oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters — for debug and validation
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols (BLE, LoRa, or similar)
- Experience with battery-powered or low-power system design
- Understanding of EMC considerations and design for compliance
- Exposure to defence, law enforcement, or regulated product development environments
Hours & Working Pattern
- 36 hours per week, primarily office-based
- Based at our office in West Dean, Salisbury
