We are seeking a Contracts Manager to oversee civil engineering projects in Wakefield & surrounding areas. In this role, you will lead all project activities and teams to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. You will also play a key part in maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and confidence that supports future opportunities.
What You’ll Do
Project Leadership & Delivery

Plan, manage and coordinate projects, ensuring programmes are detailed, realistic and delivered on time.

Oversee procurement, materials reconciliation and subcontractor engagement to maximise value and minimise delays.

Ensure all contractual obligations are understood and fulfilled across assigned sites.

Lead weekly progress, budget and planning reviews, producing accurate progress reports, cost updates and forecasts.

Manage design requirements, risk registers and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Ensure timely and defect‑free handovers, supported by robust quality control, snagging and close‑out processes.
Commercial & Financial Management

Develop and monitor commercial plans, forecasts and cost‑value reconciliations each month.

Ensure compliant commercial practices, correct subcontractor engagement and appropriate management of retentions.

Support tenders and negotiations with accurate, commercially sound input.

Liaise with the commercial team on contract, insurance and legal matters.
Health, Safety, Quality & Environment
-
Champion a strong health, safety and environmental culture through visible leadership and compliance with company procedures.

Allocate SHE responsibilities, ensure training needs are met and maintain site documentation to required standards.

Oversee subcontractor compliance and ensure sites meet all regulatory requirements, including NRSWA, HAUC and Chapter 8.

Implement quality assurance processes including ITPs, QA file management and best‑practice standards.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement

Build strong relationships with clients, residents and external partners, ensuring excellent communication and minimal community impact.

Chair meetings, lead presentations and maintain high‑quality project records.

Manage expectations by providing clear communication of progress and realistic handover dates.
Leadership & People Development
-
Coach, mentor and support staff to improve performance, carrying out appraisals and identifying training needs.

Support company initiatives and client commitments in collaboration with internal functions.

Undertake any reasonable duties to ensure the effective running of the business.
What We’re Looking For
Skills and Experience
-
Extensive experience of managing projects within Caddick’s portfolio.
-
Good working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, programme and risk management and cost control including forecasting, actual cost and value reporting.

Proficient in the use of MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerProject.

Knowledge of the NEC contract including the Early Warning and Compensation Event mechanisms.

Experience of Pre-Qualification and Tendering process for a number of multi-discipline projects.

Educated as a minimum to HNC/HND/Degree level (or equivalent i.e. NVQ Level 6).

MCIOB or MICE, or equivalent (desirable).

NEBOSH Construction Certificate (desirable).

SMSTS or IOSH.
-
CSCS Managers Card (Black Card).
