About the Role

We’re recruiting three Roads Operatives to join our Roads Service teams at Dumfries and Lockerbie. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving the region’s road network, working outdoors in a practical, hands‑on environment.

What You’ll Do

Carry out a wide range of road maintenance and construction tasks
Lay paving slabs, kerbs, concrete and asphalt
Undertake drainage works
Set up and remove temporary traffic management (signs, cones, barriers)
Support winter maintenance, including gritting, snow clearance and flood response
Summer standby; weather - flood response, general enquiries
Operate plant and machinery such as rollers, mini excavators, disc cutters, tractors and breakers

What We’re Looking For

Practical, hands‑on approach with a focus on safety
Educated to SCQF Level 4 (e.g National Certificate/higher) or equivalent
CSCS Card or commitment to obtain in 6 months
Current and Valid Operative Level New Roads and Streetworks Qualification or commitment to obtain in 6 months.
Have relevant Health and Safety Training in construction
Ability to work as part of a team in all weather conditions
A full driving licence is highly desirable
Interest in gaining further qualifications – opportunities for goods vehicle training are available
