The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and hands-on Assistant Manager to help lead our busy shop floor operation.
Working closely with the Farm Shop Manager, you will take responsibility for leading and developing the shop floor team across our Fruit & Vegetable, Bakery, Grocery and Till Operations areas. You will ensure the highest standards of presentation, availability, customer service and stock control are maintained throughout the day.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with retail management experience who enjoys working with people, takes pride in high standards and is passionate about great food.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership
- Lead, motivate and support the shop floor team.
- Create a positive and productive working environment.
- Coach, train and develop team members.
- Act as Duty Manager when required.
Department Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Fruit & Veg, Bakery and Grocery departments.
- Maintain excellent standards of merchandising, cleanliness and stock presentation.
- Ensure products are fresh, well-stocked and correctly priced.
- Monitor waste and identify opportunities to improve sales and profitability.
Ordering & Stock Control
- Take primary responsibility for ordering within the Fruit & Vegetable and Bakery departments.
- Manage stock levels to ensure excellent availability while minimising waste.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and manage deliveries efficiently.
- Ensure effective stock rotation
Till & Customer Service Operations
- Oversee the smooth running of the till area.
- Ensure cash handling and till procedures are followed accurately
- Deliver an outstanding customer experience that reflects the Newlyns.
About You
You will have:
- Previous retail supervisory or management experience, ideally within food retail, farm shops, supermarkets or hospitality.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience of stock control and ordering.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A proactive, hands-on approach.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- A passion for quality food and supporting local farming.
- Flexibility to work weekends and busy seasonal periods.
