NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate have an opportunity for a permanent post for a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in Mental Health services, North-East Fife.
This role provides a unique opportunity to manage a caseload of patients within inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, and with a variety of mental health conditions, ideally working as an independent prescriber (or working towards independent prescribing qualification), to provide support and advice to patients, carers /families and multidisciplinary teams. You will showcase your pharmacy expertise in safety of prescribing, administration and governance of medicines, and will be accountable to the senior Mental health pharmacist in developing the medication governance of high-risk medicines within inpatient mental health services in North-East Fife. In shaping the development of pharmaceutical care for patients, you will also work closely with the multidisciplinary team and provide specialist pharmacy advice to ensure safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of medicines in line with national and local guidance. You will also work across a range of specialist mental health teams, and cross-sector colleagues: including community mental health teams, primary care and community pharmacies, in providing patient-centred and seamless care.
An independent prescribing qualification or a willingness to undertake training to become an independent prescriber is essential. Within your role, you will be supported by the lead pharmacists and will take part in peer-support networks for independent prescribers and specialist-interest pharmacists.
You will be based at Stratheden Hospital, Cupar, although applicants should be flexible and be willing to have occasional travel throughout Fife, based on service demand.
The role also offers opportunities to contribute to service development, quality improvement and educational supervision of pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Service provide an ambitious programme of integrated care to the persons of Fife. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team operate across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.
As part of our staff engagement and leadership, our Pharmacy Senior Leadership hold monthly staff briefing sessions to update the team on new developments, celebrate achievements and to hear ideas from our staff.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
