Job Purpose:
To carry out all forms of care without direct supervision. Responsible for assessing planning, implementing and evaluating all aspects of resident care.
Take charge when required in the absence of the Senior Nurse. Ensure the provision of health and social care for all residents, thus ensuring a happy, caring atmosphere is achieved and maintained.
Professional:

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate all forms of resident care and document appropriately in Care Plans.

Ensure that all residents receive the care identified in the care plans.
-
To give any medication as prescribed, with proper monitoring of the drug/s, dose/s, time/s, route/s and resident/s administered to. Ensure that the medication/s are properly taken, and monitor for any normal, positive or negative effects of the drug/s. Thereafter ensure that all recording is accurately and correctly undertaken. Be familiar with ordering process/returns through Medicare.

To ensure the safety and control of all stock drugs and prevention of overstocking or out of date drugs.

Ensure all controlled drugs are checked daily and the controlled drug book also Temazepam Diazepam signed to verify the check by two members of staff, one of who must be trained.

Ensure that nursing procedures and treatments are understood and carried out according to company policies and procedure.
- To liaise with residents, relatives, staff, GPs, and other multi-disciplinary team members in order to promote first class quality care.

Observe and report on the conditions of residents and maintain resident records accurately and legibly.

Engage fully when required to do so in the reception, discharge and aftercare of residents. Liaise with hospital if temporarily in care.

To have knowledge of and use of, any equipment within the Home. To regularly check that all equipment is used safely, is in order and no defects exist. Report defects.

To respond to the residents` spiritual, emotional, physical and mental needs - Holistic Care.

Ensure the maintenance of a safe and acceptable environment for residents, and taking appropriate action to achieve and ensure this.

Have the knowledge and expertise to act appropriately in emergency situations and be able to direct others. (Refer to organisation policies and procedures.)

Maintain effective communication with relatives regarding residents' needs.
- Report any untoward incident at once to the immediate line manager. See policy on untoward incidents.

Participate in quality assurance and service development programmes thereby improving the quality of care.

Observe and ensure confidentiality in relation to all aspects of work.

Comply with NMC guidelines regarding updating and registration.
Administration:
-
Report complaints to the line manager and assist with investigations.
-
Read organisation policies and procedures and be aware of their contents.
-
Ensure the safe keeping of resident's belongings and valuables in accordance with organisation policy. Record any transactions with family members.

Ensure at induction stage that all new staff has an awareness of Health & Safety legislation and organisation policy.

Ensure that each member of staff is aware of the policy of reporting accidents/incidents either to themselves or a colleague whilst on duty.

Ensure accident book is completed for all staff accidents.
Personnel:

Lead the team when designated "in charge" thereby ensuring a high and safe standard of resident care.

Supervise Enrolled Nurses and Care Assistants working with the nursing team.

Assess the learning needs of Enrolled Nurses and Care Assistants ensuring all written plans and records are factual and maintained in a professional manner.

Use the allocated staff effectively and inform the line manager promptly of any changes to the duty rota/skill mix. Be prepared to get cover for unexpected

sickness (staff) by checking rota.
General:

Support the Senior Nurse and act as deputy when called to do so.

Always project and promote a professional, efficient and caring organisation image.

Attend fire drill and any other appropriate training. Ensure that you and all staff are familiar with fire procedures and fire evacuation.

Participate when required with induction or training programmes.

Support staff undergoing their induction programme.

Take part in staff meetings

Ensure all reasonable precautions are taken to prevent accidents, and ensure the safety of residents, relatives, visitors and staff.

Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the Home and personal duties and responsibilities, with good work habits and a willingness to put forth-extra effort when the situation arises especially if and when fund raising for residents.

Promote good housekeeping and prevent neglect of furnishings, fitments and equipment thereby ensuring an efficient and well-managed area of care.

Practise due economy in the use of resources.

Show interest in updating job skills and share valuable knowledge/suggestions.

The performance of any other duties and responsibilities which may be required from time to time to fulfil the requirements of the role within the Home.
