About the Role
Pollock Lifts manufacture Residential Elevators, Through Floor Lifts and Step Lifts in Carrickfergus, mainly sold to the residential market direct, to Local Health Authorities and Housing Associations and also via a wide dealer network throughout the world.
We are seeking a dependable, experienced and safety-focused Saw Operator to join our production team in the Carrickfergus area. The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up and operating cold saws, band saws and circular saws to cut a range of materials according to production specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience reading measuring tools and Engineering drawings, maintaining equipment and working efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Experience with setting up and operating Cold Saws, Band Saws and Circular Saws is essential.
This is a full-time in-factory permanent position with no opportunity for remote working. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all health & safety procedures, including PPE requirements and safe systems of work.
- Maintain a clean and organised workstation in line with 5S and continuous improvement practices.
- Report equipment issues, defects, or safety concerns to supervision promptly.
- Operate cold saws, band saws, and circular saws safely and efficiently.
- Set up saw equipment, including blade changes, adjustments and material positioning.
- Load and unload raw materials using cranes, forklifts or other material handling equipment, or by hand as required.
- Read and interpret work orders, Engineering drawings and cutting lists.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, H&S and production teams to meet build schedules and improve processes.
- Measure and cut materials to precise specifications and tolerances.
- Conduct and record in-process inspections and functional testing to ensure compliance with company quality standards.
- Identify, report and support resolution of defects or non-conformances.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform routine maintenance and daily inspections on saw equipment.
- Undertake up-skilling to broaden operational flexibility.
- Assist with other shop or production duties as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 2 years’ previous experience operating industrial saw equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with working to daily and weekly targets.
- Experience with cold saws, band saws, and circular saws strongly preferred.
- Ability to read Engineering drawings.
- Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and move materials.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to noise and metal debris (appropriate PPE provided).
Work Environment
- Metal fabrication facility based in Carrickfergus.
- Exposure to moving machinery, metal shavings, lubricants and shop noise.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses/face shield, gloves, hearing protection, Hi-vis and steel-toe boots.
Schedule
- Ability to work various shift patterns at short notice, potentially rotating (0600-1400, 0830-1700, 1400-2200 among others).
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production demands.
