Northern Sands Hotel, Dunnet, Caithness

Northern Sands Hotel is a beautifully refurbished 12-bedroom hotel located in the idyllic village of Dunnet, Caithness, just four miles from Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the British mainland.

Recognised by guests and travel platforms, the hotel has been listed on Booking.com as one of the best hotels on the NC500 and has received Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice recognition.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic hospitality professional to lead the team at Northern Sands Hotel and deliver an exceptional guest experience.
As Hotel Manager, you will be the face of the hotel, setting high standards of presentation, service and professionalism while inspiring the team to do the same.
The successful candidate will be confident across front-of-house, bar, restaurant and accommodation operations, ensuring every guest receives a warm Highland welcome and consistently high standards of care.
This role requires an energetic, organised and adaptable individual who can remain calm under pressure and manage daily operations with confidence and efficiency.

Main Responsibilities

Daily Duties

Key Attributes

Oversee the smooth day-to-day operation of all hotel departments.

Manage reception and front-of-house duties.

Maintain immaculate personal presentation.

Supervise, motivate and support the training and development of the team.

Complete end-of-day reports and cashing-up procedures.

Demonstrate sound decision-making capability.

Handle guest feedback and complaints professionally, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and service standards are maintained.

Manage staff rotas and day-to-day staffing requirements.

Show strong attention to detail.

Support social media activity, promotions and local marketing initiatives.

Oversee stock control and ordering processes.

Remain calm, flexible and solutions-focused.

Assist with wedding and events planning, ensuring a high standard of organisation and guest service.

Manage cellar operations and maintain appropriate standards.

Apply a practical, proactive approach to problem solving.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Competent IT skills, with experience using online booking systems and EPOS systems desirable.
At least five years’ experience in a similar hospitality management role.
Full driving licence.
Knowledge of licensing laws; a personal licence holder would be preferred.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: £35,000–£45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Hours: 45 hours per week, including weekends and evenings. Hours may vary seasonally, with longer hours during the summer and shorter hours during the winter.
Contract: Permanent position.
