Full job description

Job Overview
The Mentor will be based at the Amazon Fulfilment Centre DSA2 Melton Site, East Yorkshire and will provide workplace coaching and support to interns undertaking internship rotations across the business.

Duties

Provide individualised workplace support and coaching for Project SEARCH interns within Amazon departments.
Support interns aged 18+ with EHCPs, learning disabilities, autism and additional support needs, to develop the skills, confidence and independence required for employment.
Work collaboratively with the Project SEARCH Tutor on issues and concerns that may impact on the interns safety, welfare and success.
Deliver on-the-job training using supported employment and systematic instruction techniques.
Carry out task analysis and develop learning strategies to enable interns to achieve required productivity, quality and health and safety standards.
Work alongside Amazon managers, workplace mentors and colleagues to support successful integration into the workplace.
Identify and implement reasonable adjustments, workplace adaptations and assistive technology where appropriate.
Support the development of natural workplace supports to encourage independence and reduce reliance on formal support.
Monitor intern progress and provide regular feedback to the Project SEARCH Tutor, interns, employers and partner agencies.
Support interns to develop workplace behaviours, communication skills, personal presentation, time management and professional conduct according to Amazons workplace culture.
Assist with vocational profiling, skills assessments and person-centred planning activities.
Support travel training and independent travel where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with families, carers, local authority representatives and support agencies to maximise intern success.
Maintain accurate learner records and complete all required paperwork in line with HLC, DFN Project SEARCH and funding requirements.
Participate in team meetings, intern reviews, staff development and quality assurance activities.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, Prevent, health and safety, equality and diversity, GDPR and all HLC policies and procedures.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

Level 3 qualification in Employment, Education, Health and Social Care, Youth Work, Employability or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience supporting young people or adults with learning disabilities, autism, SEND and/or additional support needs.
Experience of providing workplace coaching, mentoring, training or support within employment, education or community settings.
Knowledge of supported employment principles and person-centred approaches.
Understanding of the needs of young people aged 18+ with EHCPs transitioning into employment.
Ability to break down tasks and deliver effective workplace instruction and coaching.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with employers, interns, families and external agencies.
Ability to motivate and support individuals to achieve their goals.
Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and digital record management systems.
Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable Criteria

Qualification in Supported Employment, Job Coaching or Systematic Instruction.
Experience working within a DFN Project SEARCH programme.
Knowledge of Access to Work, PIP, Universal Credit and employment support available to disabled people.
Experience supporting travel training and independent living skills.
Knowledge of neurodiversity and inclusive employment practices.
Experience working within a large commercial employer environment.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Safeguarding - Essential

Demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Knowledge and understanding of Prevent Duty and safeguarding legislation.
Understanding of the signs and indicators of abuse, neglect, exploitation, radicalisation and mental health concerns and the ability to recognise safeguarding concerns and follow organisational reporting procedures.
Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all interns.
