CONTRACT TYPE One, full time 6 month FTC ending on 31st Jan 2027
DEPARTMENT: BBC Three Counties Radio
LOCATION: Dunstable (office based)
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £31,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We are looking for a full time journalist, working across a variety of programmes and platforms in our Dunstable newsroom. You need to be curious, creative and willing to go the extra mile to ensure our audience get the multi-platform news and sport coverage they need.

We serve a diverse population where over 100 different languages are spoken in urban centres like Luton, Milton Keynes and Watford as well as our more rural communities. We are the front door of the BBC and routinely come into contact with the audiences we serve. You will build on our unique connection with local people, by delivering compelling stories for radio, online, social and TV.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
You will have an understanding of our existing audience and the audiences we are trying to attract
You’ll work as part of a multi-skilled team, developing content for radio, Sounds, social and news online.
You’ll be able to draw on a wide range of sources for story ideas and you’ll deliver original stories which surprise and engage listeners in creative ways.
You’ll demonstrate a passion for creating compelling content that engages a local audience.
Essential Criteria:
We’re looking for an individual with experience of a variety of audio production techniques across both linear and Sounds, and a track record in live radio production.
A passion for local life and the ability to look at stories from diverse perspectives
Experience of audio production and journalism with strong editorial judgement.
You’ll have the great teamworking and people skills needed to collaborate with colleagues across platforms.
Desirable criteria
Experience writing for news online
Knowledge of editorial guidelines related to live broadcast
Ability to create content across multiple platforms (radio, digital, social).
Experience of working with presenters
Experience working collaboratively across teams and supporting colleagues.
