Full job description

Role: Additional Learning Support Advisor

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 40 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

This is a UK based contract, and you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer sponsorship and any offer of employment will be subject to evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

About the role:

We are currently seeking an Additional Learning Support (ALS) Advisor to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As an ALS Advisor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

Role Purpose – Ensure students with SEND receive tailored support through individual plans, mentoring, and inclusive classroom practices that promote confidence and independence.
Support Planning – Create and share individual support plans, review strategies with students, and guide curriculum teams on effective SEND approaches.
Student & Staff Engagement – Mentor students, provide advice and guidance on additional support services, and build strong professional relationships within the College.
Quality & Compliance – Conduct classroom observations to monitor implementation, maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEND processes, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Statutory Duties – Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety; actively participate in training and development to uphold professional standards.

About you:

Qualifications – Level 2 in Maths and English; relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards.
Knowledge & Experience – Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice (2014), safeguarding, equality and diversity; experience supporting young people with SEND in FE settings and liaising with curriculum teams and external agencies.
Technical Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT systems; ability to produce professional reports and support plans; understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
Core Competencies – Excellent communication (verbal and written), organisational and time-management skills; ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, adapt to change, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Values & Attributes – Positive and adaptable attitude; commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries; willingness to work across sites, travel as required, and maintain continuous professional development.
