Role Overview:
Pullman AC are looking for a highly capable Multi-Skilled Engineer / Senior Technician with strong experience in electrical and mechanical systems, instrumentation, fault diagnosis, testing, maintenance and engineering problem-solving.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, managing, and resolving a wide range of electrical, mechanical, control and instrumentation engineering challenges across rail-related systems and equipment. This customer-facing role requires strong technical competence, commercial awareness and the ability to develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Experience within refrigeration, HVAC, or F-Gas environments is desirable but not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical & Mechanical Engineering:
- Diagnose, investigate, and resolve electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and control system engineering faults across a range of rail systems and equipment.
- Carry out electrical testing, inspection, commissioning, and verification activities.
- Perform mechanical fault-finding, condition assessments, and reliability investigations.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, instrumentation loop diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
- Undertake root-cause analysis and develop corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Verify system operation following repairs, modifications, or upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671, relevant engineering standards, Health & Safety legislation, and industry best practice.
- Support engineering improvements, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to technicians, engineers, and site personnel.
Engineering Delivery:
- Support installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair and upgrade activities on electrical, mechanical and instrumentation & control systems.
- Coordinate and manage engineering activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical issues.
- Contribute to engineering planning, resource allocation and technical decision-making.
- Assist with reliability improvement and asset management activities.
Customer & Commercial Interface:
- Engage directly with customers to explain faults, risks and recommended corrective actions.
- Assess repair, refurbishment, and replacement options and provide cost-effective recommendations.
- Clearly communicate immediate corrective actions and long-term engineering solutions.
- Produce detailed technical reports, test results and engineering documentation.
- Support cost control, quotations and invoicing processes where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime and lower maintenance costs.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Manage workload across customer sites within the North East of England and wider UK.
- Liaise with office teams regarding scheduling, procurement, job completion and customer reporting.
- Participate in customer site visits, breakdown support and callout activities as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
Essential
- Experience in an Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation role within industrial, manufacturing, rail, energy, marine, or similar environments.
- Strong experience in electrical testing, fault-finding, diagnostics, and problem-solving.
· Practical mechanical experience including maintenance, repair, installation, or troubleshooting.
· Experience working with instrumentation, sensors, transmitters and field devices.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, instrumentation loop diagrams, P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
· Electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
· 18th Edition Wiring Regulations / IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
· Proven ability to assess technical issues and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
· Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
· Experience producing technical documentation and engineering reports.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Refrigeration, HVAC, F-Gas or cooling systems experience.
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA and industrial automation systems.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering or a related discipline.
- Background in the Rail sector.

Pay: £40,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
