Job Overview
Costspex is a friendly, family-run independent opticians looking for a caring and enthusiastic Optical Assistant to join our practice. This role involves working as part of our team, supporting optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services, assisting with patient consultations, and ensuring the smooth operation of our optical practice.
This position offers valuable hands-on experience within a reputable practice, contributing to patient satisfaction and overall practice efficiency, with no two days the same.
The successful candidate will work a minimum of three 7-hour shifts per week (9:30am–5:00pm), including Saturdays. Some flexibility may occasionally be required to support holiday or locum cover.
Responsibilities
- Assisting optometrists during eye examinations and consultations
- Dispense eyewear - giving advice on eyewear options, including frames and lenses, tailored to individual needs
- Carry out quality checks of eyewear (including focimetry)
- Dealing with patient enquiries and collections of eyewear
- Managing the booking of appointments and transactions
- Supporting smooth day-to-day running of the practice, including appointments, records and patient communications
- Spectacle repairs and adjustments
- Maintain a clean and welcoming practice environment
- Educating patients on eye health and aftercare procedures
Requirements
- Previous optical experience is essential
- Prior laboratory experience within an optical setting is preferred
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and team members
- Ability to stay organised and work well within a busy practice
- A genuine interest in eye health and patient care
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities within the practice
