Full job description

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and organised Head Kitchen Porter to lead our kitchen porter team and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene and efficiency throughout the kitchen operation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the chefs, ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly during busy service periods and that all food safety standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the Kitchen Porter team, ensuring duties are completed to a high standard.
Maintain exceptional levels of cleanliness throughout all kitchen, storage and back-of-house areas.
Ensure all pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment are cleaned and stored correctly.
Manage waste disposal and recycling procedures in line with company policies.
Assist with deliveries, stock rotation and storage, ensuring all products are stored safely and correctly.
Support chefs with basic food preparation when required.
Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed and signed off daily.
Monitor cleaning chemical usage and report shortages to management.
Maintain compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and COSHH regulations.
Train and develop new Kitchen Porters and support team members to achieve high standards.
Report maintenance issues, equipment faults and health & safety concerns promptly.
Help create a positive, professional and team-focused kitchen environment.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, with supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Ability to undertake manual handling and physically demanding tasks.
