Job Role
We are looking to appoint an Assessor in Built Environment to support apprentices to achieve built environment qualifications, including full Apprenticeship Standards. The role involves managing a caseload of learners, conducting workplace assessments of knowledge, skills, and behaviours, and guiding learners through to successful completion and End Point Assessment. Inductions and initial assessments are carried out to identify starting points, with individual learning plans developed in collaboration with employers, ensuring clear targets and an understanding of off‑the‑job training requirements.
Working closely with learners, employers, and internal colleagues, the Assessor monitors progress through regular workplace reviews, provides feedback, and helps learners overcome barriers to achievement. The role also contributes to programme performance, quality improvement, and recruitment activity, supporting targets for retention, achievement, and learner numbers. Health and safety compliance, employer risk assessments, curriculum development, and the promotion of a safe, inclusive learning environment are integral to ensuring high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of learners, providing assessment, support, and guidance throughout their apprenticeship journey
- Plan and carry out learner inductions and initial assessments, developing individual learning plans in collaboration with employers
- Assess knowledge, skills and behaviours, including delivery and assessment of Functional Skills where required
- Support learners to achieve NVQ qualifications and prepare for End Point Assessment
- Build and maintain effective relationships with employers and external partners to support recruitment and retention
- Conduct regular workplace reviews and monitor learner progress against agreed targets
- Ensure employer compliance, including an understanding of off-the-job training requirements
- Complete health & safety checks and risk assessments prior to learner placement
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant Built Environment occupational area
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
- Practical occupational experience within the Built Environment (e.g. Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Civil Engineer, Site Manager)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to motivate learners and inspire achievement
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and targets
- Commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing
Desirable:
- TAQA / A1 Assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards)
- Teaching qualification
- Internal Verifier qualification (V1 / IV Award)
- Experience of delivering or assessing apprenticeships or NVQs
- Experience monitoring subcontracted provision
- Experience using Smart Assessor to track learner progress, upload evidence and support assessment and internal quality assurance processes.

- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Flexibility to travel and work across employer sites
