Hours: 9.00 am–12.30 pm, Monday to Friday, including a 30-minute break
Paid teaching time: Three hours per day for 10 weekdays
Pay: £40 per teaching hour — £1,200 total. If accommodation not necessary, then fee can be discussed to be higher
Accommodation: Residential accommodation and meals at Lincoln College are provided full board

Immediate vacancy
Oxford Summer Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced English Language Teacher to join its Oxford English Language and Global Communication Programme at Lincoln College, Oxford.
The programme begins on Sunday 9 August 2026, with teaching starting on Monday 10 August 2026. Applications are therefore being reviewed immediately, and we intend to appoint a suitable candidate as soon as possible.
This is an excellent short-term opportunity for an EFL, ESOL, EAL, TEFL or English teacher who would enjoy teaching international adult learners in an Oxford college environment.
A recognised English language teaching qualification is strongly preferred. However, because we are recruiting at short notice, we will also consider applicants without a formal EFL qualification where they can demonstrate strong and relevant teaching, tutoring, lecturing or language-education experience.
Pay and residential package
The position involves:
- Three paid teaching hours per weekday
- 10 weekday teaching days
- 30 paid teaching hours in total
- £40 per teaching hour
- £1,200 total teaching payment
- Residential accommodation at Lincoln College for the programme
- Meals provided as part of the residential programme
Applicants who live locally or do not require accommodation are also strongly encouraged to apply. Where the successful candidate does not require the provided accommodation, an enhanced cash fee may be available by discussion.
Teaching schedule
Teaching takes place from Monday 10 August to Friday 21 August 2026, excluding the weekend.
The anticipated morning timetable is:
9.00–10.30 am: Core English class
10.30–11.00 am: Morning break
11.00 am–12.30 pm: English skills workshop
There are no scheduled evening teaching hours.
This is principally a morning teaching and academic co-ordination position. It does not include overnight student supervision or routine night-duty responsibilities.
About the programme
The Oxford English Language and Global Communication Programme is a two-week course for international adult learners aged 18 and over.
Students develop practical English communication skills through modern and engaging topics, including:
- Global communication
- British culture and society
- Leadership and professional communication
- Business and negotiation
- Innovation and global trends
- Academic discussion
- Presentation and public-speaking skills
- Intercultural communication
The programme covers speaking, listening, reading and writing, with a strong emphasis on confidence, fluency and practical communication.
Students are placed into one of two broad levels:
- Beginner to Intermediate: approximately A1–B1
- Intermediate to Advanced: approximately B1–C1
Classes will normally contain no more than 20 students.
Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Plan and deliver engaging English language lessons for international adult learners
- Teach one level-appropriate class for three hours each weekday
- Develop students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
- Adapt existing course content to suit the level and needs of the class
- Use themes such as culture, leadership, business, innovation and global communication
- Help confirm students’ levels and class placements at the beginning of the programme
- Liaise with the other English teacher and programme team
- Monitor students’ participation and academic progress
- Provide constructive feedback to students
- Respond professionally to any concerns about teaching or class placement
- Help ensure consistency and quality across the English language provision
- Provide brief academic information for certificates, reports or completion records
- Attend a short pre-programme briefing
- Review the proposed teaching programme and materials before the course begins
The successful candidate may serve as the programme’s English Academic Lead, depending on their experience. Any substantial additional work beyond the advertised teaching commitment would be discussed and agreed in advance.
Who we are looking for

- CELTA, CertTESOL or TEFL-qualified teachers
- EAL teachers
- English for Academic Purposes teachers
- English language lecturers
- Modern languages teachers with relevant English teaching experience
- Qualified schoolteachers with experience teaching English or literacy
- University tutors or postgraduate researchers with substantial teaching experience
- Experienced private tutors who have taught international adult learners
- Retired or semi-retired teachers available for a short residential position
Preferred qualifications
One or more of the following would be desirable:
- CELTA
- Trinity CertTESOL
- TEFL or TESOL qualification
- DELTA or DipTESOL
- MA TESOL
- Applied Linguistics qualification
- English Language or Linguistics degree
- Education or teaching qualification
- English for Academic Purposes experience
A formal EFL qualification is strongly preferred but not an absolute requirement.
Applicants without one of the above qualifications may still be considered where they have strong relevant experience and can demonstrate that they are capable of planning and delivering high-quality English language teaching.
Essential requirements

- Have relevant teaching, tutoring, lecturing or training experience
- Be confident teaching groups of adult learners
- Be able to prepare engaging and level-appropriate lessons
- Be comfortable working with students from different countries and cultural backgrounds
- Be reliable, professional and well organised
- Be available for all 10 teaching days from 10 to 21 August 2026
- Have the right to work in the United Kingdom
- Be available for an immediate online interview
Experience teaching across the A1–C1 range is helpful, but candidates do not need to have taught every level previously.
