We are a charming 7-room coaching inn with an on-site busy Bar & Restaurant located in Margate. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent guest experiences with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, serving good quality F&B and delivering a consistent service.
We’re looking for a dynamic leader who thrives in a seasonal business environment, someone who embraces the energy of the busy summer months and uses quieter periods strategically to drive growth, innovation, and revenue. The ideal candidate will bring an owner’s mindset, taking real responsibility for performance, inspiring the team through peak trading periods, and proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen and grow the business year round.
You will oversee all aspects of our inn’s operation, including accommodation, restaurant, bar, and staff management. You will have full P&L responsibility, the ability to lead a team 13-20 people and ensure our high standards across the house are consistently met.
You’ll be joining an established, high-performing team, so the ability to integrate quickly, build strong relationships, and lead in a collaborative people-first way is essential!
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations of rooms, restaurant, and bar
- Lead, train, and motivate staff
- Manage budgets, financial performance, and reporting
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Handle guest feedback and enhance customer satisfaction
- Work closely with the owners on business strategy and growth
- Oversee events department
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a General Manager or Operations Manager in hospitality
- Strong knowledge of both accommodation and F&B operations
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with booking and POS systems preferred
- Capability to handle a high volume Bar & Restaurant with lots of moving parts
The Role
You will take full responsibility for:
- P&L ownership (sales, labour, GP, EBITDA)
- Leading a high-performing FOH & Kitchen & Hotel team
- Driving consistent, high-volume service across bar, restaurant & rooms
- Maintaining standards during peak trading (especially weekends)
- Recruitment, training, and retention of a strong, stable team
- Stock control, margin management, and operational discipline
- Driving local reputation and repeat destination trade
What We’re Looking For
This role suits someone who has:
- Experience as GM / Ops Manager in a high-volume pub or restaurant-led hotel
- Strong background in busy food + drink operations - Hotel a bonus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
- Strong financial understanding (GP, labour %, profit focus)
- A visible, present leadership style on the floor
- Experience managing peak trade (Friday–Sunday intensity is key)
This Role Is NOT For You If You:
- Prefer office-based management
- Struggle in high-volume weekend service
- Avoid hands-on operational leadership
- Focus only on rooms / corporate hotel structures
- Need heavy corporate structure or slow-paced environments
