Job Title: Supporting Youth Facilitator – Explorers Leigh

As a Supporting Youth Facilitator for Explorers Leigh, you will play a vital role in working alongside our Lead Facilitator to maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment where our young LGBTQ+ people feel safe and supported. Explorers is open to all LGBTQ+ and questioning young people aged 11-18, and has a special focus on being accessible to Neurodivergent young people. Lived experience, work experience, and/or knowledge of Neurodivergence is really valuable, as you'll be working with young people with a wide range of support needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Session Delivery: Deliver and facilitate youth-led sessions alongside the Lead Facilitator, helping with planning and delivery (sometimes with help and prompting).
Reliability & Admin: Always arrive on time and meet expected deadlines without being reminded. Complete essential paperwork and admin on time (sometimes with support).
Active Participation: Get "stuck in" with activities, build great rapport with the young people, and model healthy boundaries.
Safety & Hazard Awareness: Identify and report safeguarding concerns immediately. Spot in-the-moment hazards (like a spill or a loose wire) and fix them immediately. Confidently handle basic de-escalation and challenging behaviour (with prompting when needed).
Teamwork & Cleanliness: Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a fair balance of work. Take responsibility for tidying up after every session and keeping storage drawers organised without being prompted.
Skills and Qualifications:
Entry-Level Opportunity: This is an entry-level role! We are primarily looking for enthusiasm, a little bit of experience (such as volunteering hours), and a strong willingness to learn and get qualified on the job.

Essential:
A deep passion for working with young people and promoting LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent inclusion.
Strong communication skills and a healthy, collaborative attitude toward feedback and teamwork.
Reliability, punctuality, and an eye for keeping spaces tidy and safe.
Willingness to complete training, certificates, or accreditations that support you in your role.
Lived experience of being LGBTQ+ and/or Neurodivergent is highly valued.
Desirable:
Creative skills (arts, music, drama) or experience working with young people with additional needs.
Hobbies and interests that might align with young people aged 11-18, such as sports, video games, DnD etc.
First aid and safeguarding training (training will be provided if not already qualified).

Additional Salary Information

Pay: £17.25 per hour (£69 per week)
This is a freelance role, and you will be expected to pay your own tax and National Insurance contributions.

Working pattern details
The 4 hours per week are broken down as follows:
Saturdays (In-person at Leigh Family Hub): 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM (30 mins setup, 2 hours group facilitation 12:30–2:30 PM, 30 mins reflection and tidying).
Remote Admin: 1 hour per week, completed at a time that suits you.
Note: Pending funding, there may be opportunities for additional paid hours to staff residential trips, Pride events, and attend compulsory training.
