As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Finance to lead our finance function and play a key role in supporting the strategic direction of the business.
The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership position offering significant influence across the organisation. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Head of Finance will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial management, accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective business partnering across the organisation.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with commercial awareness and leadership capability, helping to drive operational efficiency and support sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Oversee the day-to-day finance operation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong financial controls.
- Act as a trusted adviser to the Managing Director and senior leadership team on financial matters.
Financial Reporting & Control
- Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
- Produce statutory accounts and ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Ensure timely completion of VAT returns, payroll-related reporting, and other statutory obligations.
Compliance & Governance
- Maintain a robust financial control environment and identify opportunities to strengthen processes.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, accountants, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial, tax, and reporting regulations.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Monitor financial performance against budget and provide meaningful analysis and recommendations.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support business objectives.
Commercial & Strategic Support
- Provide financial insight and analysis to support business decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and financial performance.
- Support business growth initiatives, investment decisions, and operational improvements.
About You
Essential Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, PAYE, and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficient in modern accounting systems and financial software.
Experience
- Significant post-qualification experience within a senior finance or financial leadership role.
- Proven track record of producing high-quality management and statutory accounts.
- Experience leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong background within an SME environment, with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on.
- Experience within wholesale, distribution, retail, e-commerce, or related sectors would be advantageous.
