Job Summary
To carry out high-quality kitchen fitting works within occupied and unoccupied properties, ensuring all installations, repairs and associated joinery works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard. The role involves working as part of a maintenance and construction team, liaising with supervisors, office staff, tenants, clients and other trades where required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Remove existing kitchen units, worktops, fixtures and fittings where required.
- Install kitchen base units, wall units, panels, plinths, cornices, pelmets, worktops and associated joinery items.
- Carry out accurate measuring, cutting, levelling and fixing of kitchen components.
- Fit internal joinery associated with kitchen works, including boxing-in, skirtings, facings and trims.
- Install worktops, including mitred joints, sink/hob cut-outs and edging where required.
- Ensure kitchens are fitted neatly, securely and in line with manufacturer instructions and project specifications.
- Carry out minor making-good works following installation.
- Work alongside plumbers, electricians, plasterers, tilers and other trades to complete kitchen projects.
- Read and work from drawings, plans, job sheets and specifications.
- Carry out daily checks of the work area and report any issues, delays or defects to the supervisor/office.
- Ensure all works are completed to a high standard of workmanship and customer care.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy and safe throughout the job.
- Protect tenants’/clients’ property and minimise disruption when working in occupied homes.
- Complete job updates, photographs, paperwork or digital records as required.
- Report any health and safety concerns, near misses, incidents or access issues immediately.
- Follow company procedures, risk assessments, method statements and site instructions at all times.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Work in accordance with company health and safety policies, RAMS and site rules.
- Use appropriate PPE, including safety boots, gloves, eye protection, dust mask/respiratory protection and hearing protection where required.
- Use tools, equipment and materials safely and only for their intended purpose.
- Ensure power tools are suitable, maintained and visually checked before use.
- Follow safe manual handling practices when lifting units, worktops and materials.
- Control dust, noise and waste generated by cutting, drilling or removal works.
- Maintain good housekeeping to prevent slips, trips and falls.
- Ensure any hazardous materials or suspected asbestos-containing materials are reported immediately and left undisturbed.
- Do not carry out gas or electrical work unless suitably qualified and authorised.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous experience as a kitchen fitter, joiner or multi-skilled tradesperson.
- Competent in kitchen installation and associated joinery works.
- Ability to read plans, drawings and work instructions.
- Good measuring, cutting and finishing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills with tenants, clients, supervisors and office staff.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work safely in occupied domestic properties.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Qualifications / Training
Essential or desirable depending on company requirements:
- CSCS card preferred.
- Relevant joinery/kitchen fitting qualification desirable.
- Manual handling training.
- Asbestos awareness training.
- Working at height awareness.
- Abrasive wheels training where applicable.
- Face fit testing where respiratory protection is required.
- First aid awareness desirable.

Expected Standards
The Kitchen Fitter is expected to complete works safely, to specification, within agreed timescales and to a standard acceptable to the company, client and end user. All work must be carried out professionally, with care taken to protect the property, maintain good communication and leave the work area clean and safe.
