Edinburgh is one of the United Kingdom's fastest growing technology centres, and at OpticNet Digital Infrastructure Ltd, we help businesses stay connected through reliable, secure and scalable network infrastructure.
We provide managed connectivity, cloud networking and technical support services to organisations across Scotland and the wider United Kingdom. We are looking for a Network Engineer who can design, maintain and improve business critical network environments.
You will work closely with infrastructure engineers, service desk teams, project managers and clients to deliver stable network solutions. This is a practical mid level role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, improving performance and taking responsibility for network reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
Network Configuration and Maintenance:
Configure, maintain and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and other network infrastructure.
Incident Resolution:
Investigate connectivity issues, performance problems and network outages while ensuring incidents are resolved within agreed service levels.
Network Monitoring:
Use monitoring and diagnostic tools to identify potential issues, analyse network traffic and improve system availability.
Infrastructure Projects:
Support network upgrades, office migrations, hardware installations and the deployment of new client environments.
Security Support:
Implement firewall rules, access controls, virtual private networks and network segmentation in line with company security standards.
Technical Documentation:
Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration records, troubleshooting guides and client documentation.
Client Support:
Communicate with clients during technical investigations and provide clear updates on issues, resolutions and recommended improvements.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve network performance, reduce recurring incidents and strengthen operational processes.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 3 years of professional experience in network engineering, infrastructure support or a related technical role.
Networking Knowledge:
Strong understanding of TCP IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, wireless networking and virtual private networks.
Technical Skills:
Practical experience with enterprise network equipment, firewalls, network monitoring platforms and troubleshooting tools.
Cloud Knowledge:
Experience supporting Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or cloud based networking environments would be beneficial.
Certifications:
Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network Plus, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer or similar certifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal English skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to colleagues and clients.

Pay: £61,711.00-£78,550.00 per year
