Junior Metallurgist

Location: Hemerdon Mine, South Devon
Job Type: Permanent
Reports To: Chief Metallurgist

Join the Hemerdon Mine Restart Project

Tungsten West is restarting the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin Mine in South Devon and is looking for a motivated Junior Metallurgist to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in a large-scale mineral processing operation while supporting the commissioning, ramp-up and future operation of one of the world's largest tungsten resources.

** This role requires you to pass a Drug and Alcohol test on day one **

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, you will support process optimisation, metallurgical test work, plant performance monitoring and continuous improvement activities across the processing plant.

This is a practical, site-based role suited to someone who is safety-focused, analytical and eager to develop their career in extractive metallurgy.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and analyse plant performance data.
Support metallurgical test work and process investigations.
Assist with metallurgical reporting and accounting.
Work closely with Operations, Laboratory and Metallurgy teams.
Participate in continuous improvement and optimisation projects.
Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the processing plant.

What We're Looking ForEssential

Degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
0–2 years' experience in mining, metallurgy, minerals processing or process engineering.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence.
Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when required.

Desirable

Previous industrial placement or internship within mining, minerals processing, manufacturing or heavy industry.
Experience using process monitoring or data analysis software.

Physical Requirements

Comfortable working in an operational processing plant environment.
Able to regularly climb stairs and work across a six-storey processing facility.
Comfortable working at height.
Able to work 12-hour shifts when required.
Committed to maintaining high health and safety standards.
