Tungsten West is restarting the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin Mine in South Devon and is looking for a motivated Junior Metallurgist to join our growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in a large-scale mineral processing operation while supporting the commissioning, ramp-up and future operation of one of the world's largest tungsten resources.
** This role requires you to pass a Drug and Alcohol test on day one **
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, you will support process optimisation, metallurgical test work, plant performance monitoring and continuous improvement activities across the processing plant.
This is a practical, site-based role suited to someone who is safety-focused, analytical and eager to develop their career in extractive metallurgy.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse plant performance data.
- Support metallurgical test work and process investigations.
- Assist with metallurgical reporting and accounting.
- Work closely with Operations, Laboratory and Metallurgy teams.
- Participate in continuous improvement and optimisation projects.
- Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the processing plant.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 0–2 years' experience in mining, metallurgy, minerals processing or process engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when required.
Desirable
- Previous industrial placement or internship within mining, minerals processing, manufacturing or heavy industry.
- Experience using process monitoring or data analysis software.
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working in an operational processing plant environment.
- Able to regularly climb stairs and work across a six-storey processing facility.
- Comfortable working at height.
- Able to work 12-hour shifts when required.
- Committed to maintaining high health and safety standards.
