Objective: To help the Engineering Manager develop the engineering aspects of Nexus Packaging Ltd’s new extrusion blow moulding operation, ensuring optimal machinery performance, continuous process improvement and innovation in production techniques.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Engineering Management:
The Senior Engineer will be joint second in command to the Engineering Manager, and
will lead the engineering department, helping with all technical aspects of the
blow moulding operation. Aspects include maintenance, training, development,
tools and equipment etc.
Contribute to and implement the training program with the Manufacturing Director for the
Engineers.
Develop the team to understand key areas of the Nexus Operation. This includes
improving machine-specific skills such as blow moulding processing, parison
programming, new tool implementation etc. Also includes training on
compressors, chillers, electronic panel etc.
Help train production staff on machine adjustments eg. blowpin adjustment, cleaning
the heads.
Ensure Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) are written to ensure that all Health &
Safety procedures are met and ensure all necessary staff have read them.
Machinery and Equipment Management:
Ensure all blow moulding machinery and equipment are operating at peak efficiency and
are properly maintained.
Liaise with the Engineering Manager and relative departments (Production, Quality) to
implement maintenance program targets.
Train the Shift Engineers/Technicians to solve faults: Examples include
Machine Troubleshooting
Rewinding or changing faulty motors
Change gearboxes during failure.
Fault find and change electrical resistance heaters
Help with the installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of new machinery and
tooling, including:
Blow moulding machines
Moulds Automation & Robotics
Vision inspection systems
Process Improvement:
Continuously analyse and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce
waste and enhance product quality.
Implement innovative engineering solutions to optimize the blow moulding operation.
Team Development:
Help develop the engineering team, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated and
equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Engineers and Technicians usually have a certain bias towards mechanical or electrical.
Suggest steps to take to fill the gaps where you notice someone can/has the
motivation to evolve in certain areas.
Foster a collaborative environment where ideas for improvements and innovations are
encouraged and recognized.
Quality Assurance:
Work closely with the Quality Control and Production teams to ensure that
engineering solutions meet quality standards and customer specifications.
Assist in training of production staff to negate these issues and know what to look
for in terms of quality issues.
Train the operators to make adjustments on the machine if necessary to solve these
problems.
Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance policies and
procedures to rectify any quality issues.
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance:
Ensure all engineering activities comply with health, safety and environmental
regulations.
Help to write SOPs so that all staff involved are aware of the correct procedures
and policies to adhere to.
Promote a safety culture and ensure engineering practices minimize risks to employees
and the environment.
Technical Documentation:
Ensure proper documentation of all engineering processes, modifications and
maintenance activities.
Record any changes in the machine logbook.
Maintain up-to-date technical and training manuals for engineering personnel.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure
smooth operation and coordination of engineering activities.
