We are launching a new, well-funded boatbuilding venture focused on the production of small inshore, full electric utility boats.
We are looking for an experienced Boat Builder / Composite Laminator to help establish and lead the production process from the ground up. This is a hands-on role for someone who can build high-quality composite hulls and take responsibility for producing boats to a professional standard before fit-out.
The successful applicant will be an early member of a growing boat brand and will have the opportunity to help shape the production methods, workshop standards and build quality from day one.
This role would suit an experienced composite boat builder who is confident working independently, can lead by example, and is capable of supervising one or two apprentices as the team develops.
Responsibilities
- Build composite boat hulls to a high standard, from mould preparation through to finished hull stage
- Carry out GRP/composite laminating, trimming, bonding and structural assembly
- Lead the practical production process for small inshore electric utility boats
- Supervise and support one or two apprentices or junior team members
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, accuracy and finish
- Help develop repeatable production methods for a new boat range
- Work with management to improve build efficiency, quality and workshop organisation
- Ensure safe working practices in the workshop
- Prepare hulls and structures ready for fit-out and installation of systems
Essential Experience and Skills
- Proven experience in boatbuilding, preferably with composite/GRP construction
- Strong practical laminating skills
- Ability to build a hull to a high standard before fit-out
- Understanding of mould preparation, lay-up, bonding, trimming and finishing
- Ability to read and work from drawings, measurements and build instructions
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Ability to lead a small team and train apprentices
- Reliable, organised and able to take ownership of the build process
Desirable Experience
- Experience with small commercial, workboat, launch, RIB, tender or utility boat construction
- Experience setting up production processes for repeat boatbuilding
- Knowledge of electric propulsion installation or marine systems
- Experience with infusion, vacuum bagging or advanced composite techniques
- Joinery, fit-out, metalwork or general marine engineering skills
