Full job description

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Houlton School to cover for absent teaching staff. You will report to the Cover Manager each day, and your duties will include supervising a whole class to undertake set work/activities, maintaining good order and managing behaviour constructively and dealing with immediate problems and emergencies in accordance with the school’s policies.

Salary: NJC07 - NJC11 £28,598.00 to £31,022.00 FTE

Actual salary: £24,791.57 to £26,892.93

Job role: Term time + 5 days

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (part-time applications considered)

Working pattern: Monday – Friday (8.15 to 4.15am)

JOB PURPOSE:

To cover for absent teachers by supervising pupils and delivering pre-planned materials. To support the administration and/or Front of House teams where cover requirements are low on a given day.

MAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervising a whole class to undertake set work/activities and can include introducing and closing the class.
Maintaining good order and managing behaviour constructively.
Promotion of self-control and independence.
Keep pupils on task as necessary.
Responding appropriately to questions raised by pupils.
Collecting any completed work and returning it to the appropriate teacher.
Dealing with immediate problems and emergencies in accordance with the school’s policies.
Reporting back on behaviour of pupils during the class and any issues arising.

The post holder will have a shared responsibility for the safeguarding of all children and young people. The post holder has an implicit duty to promote the welfare of all staff, children and young people and to be committed to promoting diversity and inclusion.

Pay: £24,791.57-£26,892.93 per year
