Pegasus Waste Management provides specialist services in the field of hazardous waste, to a wide range of customers in diverse fields such as aerospace, education, defence and FMCG.
The role
Due to increased demand from our existing customers and to assist with wider company expansion, we are looking for a professional, hard-working Operations Chemist to join our team based in the Plymouth area.

With comprehensive training, you will become experienced in all aspects of hazardous waste management, capable of employing these skills to assist our customers in this important field.
Note: The minimum qualifications required for this role is BSc in Chemistry, or equivalent.
RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS:
To take a key role where required with:
- Following pre-acceptance procedures and completing chemical waste pre-acceptance work.
- Visiting onsite chemical waste locations, listing, packing and securing collections for pre-acceptance.
- Implementing bespoke chemical waste management systems for individual projects.
- Carrying out chemical waste verification checks.
- Chemical packing, handling & re-packing.
- Creating outgoing chemical and hazardous waste consignments, completing booking forms and arranging logistics.
- Vehicle loading & unloading.
- Co-ordination and correct use of plant, machinery & equipment where required.
- Day-to-day liaison with customer site staff and sub-contractors.
- Following Health & Safety systems and working safely to a risk assessment and/or method statement.
- Ensuring premises and equipment are maintained in a clean, serviceable condition.
- To provide appropriate feedback and actively engaging with the Facility Manager to plan day-to-day activities, deliveries and collections.
- To assist the company in providing a reliable service to customers.
- To fully understand the regulations concerned with the transporting, processing and disposal of hazardous waste.
- To understand the company’s stock management, inventory and other business systems, and to be able to operate them effectively.
- To safely and responsibly operate company vehicles (3.5 tne vans) to carry out collections and deliveries.

To be considered, you must have the following:
- A full clean UK driving licence (maximum of 6 points).
- Eligible to be legally employed in the UK.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Good interpersonal skills combined with an understanding of customer needs.
- Teamwork and working alongside others.
- Problem solving capabilities.
- Computer literacy and use of standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
- Good practical skills.
Desirable skills include:
- Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor
- ADR Driving licence / ADR certificate
- B1 Counterbalance Forklift Truck Operator
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
- Experience of providing good customer service.
- Experience of working in the waste industry.
- Experience of working in industrial / warehouse environments.
- Experience of handling hazardous chemicals.
