What’s the job?

This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy Private Sector Housing team, contributing to improving standards and health outcomes for our residents. The successful applicant will investigate complaints, apply housing standards, take enforcement action and lead on the licensing of our HMOs. They will assist in the delivery grants and financial assistance to adapt and repair properties, and energy efficiency initiatives to achieve low carbon and warm homes.

What will I need?

You will have:

a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health and be able to demonstrate experience in Private Sector Housing regulation/enforcement
An HHSRS certificate of competency
A strong interest in improving private sector housing and health outcomes
The ability to prioritise a busy caseload and find positive solutions to complex challenges
Be highly motivated and enthusiastic with strong customer centred skills.

What we offer:

Financial: An attractive basic salary within a clear pay structure. A starting salary of £44,357 increasing to £45,525 after one years service and increasing further to £46,692 upon completion of two years in post (subject to managerial approval).
In addition to your salary, you will receive a sign-on payment of £5,000, 50% is to be paid on successful completion of your probation and the other 50% on the anniversary of 18 months in post.
Holiday Entitlement: 26 days annual leave (increasing to 29 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service) plus three additional days in December and bank holidays.
Employee Assistance Programme: The Council has partnered with Health Assured to provide staff with access to EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) to assist in balancing everyday life with the requirement of work and home.
Free staff parking and an essential car user allowance of £1000 per annum (pro-rated for part time staff)
Pensions: Membership of the Local Government (CARE – Career Average (Revalued Earnings) Pension Scheme – Employer contribution of 19.7%.
Hybrid: The Council operates a hybrid working model with minimum 2 days working in the office.
