We are hiring a plumbing apprentice for a site in Walthamstow (Patchworks). As part of our social value remit this vacancy is open to residents of Waltham Forest and only eligible candidates will be considered.
The Individual:
You need to be committed, dedicated and prepared to work hard both on site and with study. You must be able to take constructive criticism and learn from it. You must have the right aptitude to achieve your NVQ qualification along with the commitment to revise in preparation for your exams.
Main Job Tasks Include:
- Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
- Once pipes and plumbing fittings are installed, fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to
- establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring
- Install sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to relevant systems
- Ability to use equipment such as angle grinders and SDS drills

- Provide regular opportunities on site for the apprentice to demonstrate their learning, allowing them to demonstrate their skills and knowledge
- Provide a safe and supportive environment so that apprentices can perform to the best of their abilities
- Ensure that the apprentice receives regular documented reviews to provide evidence of progress and achievements
- Set and review regular targets to monitor progress
Minimum Requirements
English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.
Desired Requirements
The passion and commitment to become a fully qualified Plumber. It will be advantageous if you already have previous related work experience and a CSCS/ECS Card.
Key Training/College Information
Watkins will enrol you in Waltham Forest College.
The apprenticeship duration is 48 months dependant on your previous qualifications.
Eligibility
To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:
- Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status
- Not enrolled on any other courses
- Living in the London Borough of Waltham Forest
Pay: £9.13-£15.37 per hour
