Summary
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Planner to work in a Group role, working across all of our AD facilities.
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and optimising planned maintenance activities across the AD plants. This role provides a critical link between Engineering, Operations, and Finance to ensure plant reliability, resource efficiency, and compliance with contractual obligations. The Maintenance Planner will also support the coordination of third-party grid connection activities, external service providers, and contractual stakeholders involved in the plant’s infrastructure and performance.
Key areas of role responsibility:
Maintenance Planning & Coordination
- Develop, manage, and continuously improve the preventive and predictive maintenance programme for all plant assets (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process equipment) in coordination with the Site Maintenance Manager and Field Engineering Manager
- Create detailed job plans, including labour requirements, materials, tools, permits, and safety procedures.
- Maintain and optimise the (CMMS) to ensure accurate records of work orders, asset history, failure causes, and maintenance KPIs.
- Work closely with Engineering and Operations to prioritise maintenance tasks based on criticality, risk, downtime impact, and production schedules.
- Coordinate maintenance shutdowns and planned outages, ensuring minimal impact on plant operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the central point of contact between Engineering, Operations, and Finance for resource planning, maintenance budgeting, and cost tracking.
- Work with Finance to forecast maintenance spend, track contractor/parts costs, and analyse variances.
- Support Operations with technical insights, maintenance windows, and plant availability planning.
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering to align maintenance strategy with long-term asset integrity plans.
Third-Party Management & Grid Interface
- Support coordination of third-party grid connection activities, including scheduled outages, export/import agreements, and network operator interactions (e.g., DNO).
- Liaise with external contractors, OEM providers, and specialist service vendors to schedule works, review scopes, and ensure performance compliance with contract terms.
- Ensure all third-party works are documented, risk-assessed, and integrated into the plant’s maintenance planning system.
- Maintain oversight of external service contracts, renewals, and SLA tracking.
Technical & Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure maintenance activities follow safety, environmental, and regulatory standards relevant to AD plant operations (e.g., EA permits, DSEAR, PUWER, LOLER).
- Provide technical input for asset performance reviews, failure analysis, and engineering improvement projects.
- Prepare regular reports on maintenance performance, downtime trends, resource utilisation, and contractor performance.
Individual competency & role requirements
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of AD & G2G plant equipment: pumps, digesters, pipework, gas systems, CHP engines, gas to grid, instrumentation, PLC/SCADA, and mechanical systems.
- Experience in a maintenance planning, engineering coordinator, or technical scheduling role within industrial, utilities, energy, waste, or process environments
- Competence with CMMS systems and maintenance planning methodologies
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical diagrams, control system logic, and performance data
- At least level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance or equivalent
- Strong knowledge with diagnostic tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints
- Experience of use of industry specific software (AutoCAD, Scada, Shire) desirable
- High level of computer literacy – proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Sharepoint)
- IOSH/NEBOSH certificate desirable
