JOB TITLE: Relief Security Officer

PAY RATE: £14.80 Per Hour

Job Summary
We are seeking a vigilant and dependable Relief Security Officer to provide ad-hoc, flexible security cover at our client site in London. As a Relief Security Officer, you will ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff and contractors. You will be called upon at short notice to cover peak periods, seasonal events, staff sickness, and annual leave.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular internal and external foot patrols across the 36-acre site, including animal enclosures, visitor areas, and corporate spaces.
- Ensure all perimeter fences, gates, windows, and buildings are secure, especially during lock-up or opening procedures.
- Monitor CCTV cameras, fire alarms, and intruder detection systems.
- Act as a visible deterrent against antisocial behavior, theft, and unauthorized access.
- Manage access points, checking IDs, staff passes, and contractor logs.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, greeting visitors and providing directions or assistance warmly and professionally.
- Assist with crowd management and queue control during high-footfall seasonal events.
- Act as a first responder to site incidents, including missing children, medical emergencies, or security breaches.
- Liaise calmly and effectively with emergency services and local authorities when required.
- Assist the animal care teams during emergency animal escape drills or live situations by securing containment cordons.
- Complete detailed, clear incident reports and daily shift logs digitally or on paper.
Skill/ Experience:
- Fluent in written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly via two-way radio and write coherent incident reports.
- Basic computer literacy for operating digital logbooks and logging incidents.
- Ability to walk and remain on your feet for extended periods across a large outdoor site in all weather conditions.
- Previous experience in a high-footfall tourist attraction, public park, or unique heritage environment.
- Willingness to work a highly variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, bank holidays, and short-notice call-outs.
Licence Requirements:
- You must have a current SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor Licence
- Valid First Aid at Work (FAW) certification
Job Requirements:
You must be able to provide a check-able 5-year employment history for vetting purposes (this can include full-time education or periods in receipt of benefits). Possession of a First Aid at Work Certificate is desirable.
