Job Summary
The Southend Mencap General Manager is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s daily operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to individuals with learning disabilities. This leadership role involves strategic planning, staff management, and fostering strong relationships within the community. The ideal candidate will have proven supervising experience, management expertise, project management experience, grant application and fundraising experience and strong leadership qualities to drive organisational growth and uphold Southend Mencap’s values and mission.
Hours
28 per week or 32.5 per week, dependent on grant and fundraising experience
Principal Responsibilities
- Manage the activities of Southend Mencap within agreed service and financial boundaries
- Manage the development and delivery of services for people with learning disabilities within agreed strategic objectives
- Liaise and network with other organisations, including statutory bodies, to establish and maintain partnerships and opportunities.
- Organise, Chair and prepare agendas and minutes of meetings as required
- In conjunction with Treasurer agree and control annual budgets
- Recruit staff and volunteers and manage personnel records and appropriate pay-roll
- Research, prepare and submit grant applications and tenders as necessary
- Research and formulate plans for new services and/or projects as determined by the agreed annual strategy
- Promote and publicise Southend Mencap through the local media and organisations
- Organise special events as an integral part of agreed plans
- Review the policies and procedures of the organisation to ensure statutory and administrative requirements
- Manage all the information technology activities
- Ensure the review of procedures and policies which address the training and support needs of staff and volunteers
- Maintain accurate records & statistics
- Implement procedures for the evaluation and monitoring of services
- Develop and maintain good practices in all areas of responsibility
- Produce and circulate the Annual Report
- Undertake such other duties, appropriate to the post, as may be requested by the Executive Committee.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIALS
- Proven people and project management experience
- I.T. skills
- Experience of supporting people with learning disabilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven administrative skills
- Ability to prioritise
- Proven accounting and budgeting skills
- Car driver as position is office based, not remote working
DESIRABLES
- Proven experience in applying for and securing grants or other funding
- Experience of working in the voluntary or statutory sector
- Knowledge of Human Resources
- First aid skills
Pay: £26,208.00-£30,842.50 per year
