Job title: Child and Young Person Play Therapist/Counsellor/Psychotherapist/Art Therapist

Contract: Associate, Self-employed, sessional

Base: Various. School settings across Warwickshire

Salary: £25-35 per hour

Hours of work: Term-time. School hours during agreed days, subject to service demand and project availability.

Responsible to:

Parenting Project Mental Health Lead & Mental Health Coordinator

Closing Date: 9am Monday 29th June. Interviews week commencing 6th July.

Our Service

The Parenting Project is a dedicated and dynamic UK registered charity established in 2008 to empower families.

Parenting Project’s counselling service offers a safe and highly ethical, confidential service to children and young people within their school setting. As we expand we are delighted to be able to offer successful candidates the opportunity to work sessionally within a well-supported and reflective clinical team.

We are seeking qualified CYP therapists to join our team of associates. Opportunities range from independent sessional work to roles embedded within school settings. We allocate work based on your availability; subject to service demand and project availability. Session fees vary depending on the project.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all our staff and counsellors to share that commitment. Only candidates who provide a fully completed application form will be shortlisted for interview. Successful candidates must undertake a satisfactory completion of an enhanced check through the Disclosure and Barring Service before commencing the role.

Job Purpose

To offer a school counselling service to children and young people who meet the criteria to use the service.

Key Relationships

Children and Young People (CYP), Parenting Project staff, school pastoral and SLT staff, Parents, Carers, Statutory and Voluntary Sector Agencies

Key Responsibilities

To provide an independent counselling service to students offering 1 to 1 therapeutic sessions
To maintain confidentiality (except in those circumstances where there is a safeguarding issue).
To liaise with school pastoral staff, SLT and DSL’s
To liaise with Parenting Project clinical team
To liaise with external agencies as appropriate
Perform duties within the codes of practice and ethics recommended by the BACP, UKCP or equivalent membership body.
Work within the Safeguarding and Child Protection policies of the school and Parenting Project
To have due regard to the Equality Act 2010 ensuring all individuals are treated with dignity & respect.
Ensure clinical notes, outcome measures and other necessary paperwork are completed.
Contribute to the review and evaluation of the service offered
To undertake any other duties as required in line with the scope and spirit of the job purpose

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential/Desirable

Educated to graduate level or equivalent -D

Professional accreditation -D

Minimum of Level 4 qualification in counselling -E

Further training/qualification in working with children, young people and families -E

Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering evidence-based age-appropriate interventions to children and young people - E

Experience of providing a range of therapeutic techniques to support children and young people -D

Knowledge of child development -E

Knowledge of family dynamics and stages -E

Knowledge of the emotional, social and educational issues experienced by children and young people today -E

An awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds -E

Knowledge of BACP ethical framework -E

Meet the BACP competencies for working with CYP- E

Experience

Minimum of 2 year’s post qualification experience (BACP/UKCP registered or equivalent) -E

Previous experience of counselling children and young people -E

Experience of working in educational settings -D
